Let’s Rock The Boat

Over the past year, an interesting thing has happened to me; I’ve come to realize that a lot of the things that I had previously believed to be true – some I even held to as tenets of faith – are not true.

Recently, I’ve been wrestling with a falsehood, and I feel like I’ve been losing.  In my work I refer to this kind of falsehood as an illusion.  I often read such things for others and discover “energetic statements” for them in order to understand them better.  The energy of the illusion I’ve been wrestling lately could be described as, “Leave well enough alone,” or perhaps, “Don’t rock the boat,” or, “Don’t make waves.”

Have you noticed that I haven’t been saying much in my blog lately?  This is why.

Now, maybe you agree with this energy that says, basically, “Sit down, shut up, and mind your own business!”  I know that I’ve always believed that I should have something amazing, something truly important to say (if I said anything) in order to not risk being embarrassed.  What I’ve realized lately is that this illusion is a subtle attack on self worth and that this is something that we buy into at least culturally and perhaps even globally.

So, is it really best to “not rock the boat?”  Does a policy of “Sit down, shut up, and mind your own business,” directly make life better, happier, or more joyful?  Is it empowering for us to suppress our genuine self in favor of bland societal tolerance?  Obviously I think the answer is “No,” but even I think it sounds dangerous and even anarchic to advocate self expression.  Can you see how deeply this energy is ingrained in us?  Even while I’m writing this I’m struggling with myself as a child who sucked up this illusion like a sponge; “Oh, Jimmy got ridiculed and corrected for being wrong or loud or bad.  Maybe if I sit here quietly they won’t notice that I’m sometimes wrong / loud / bad.

Here is the truth.  None of us is perfect, all of us are amazing, all of us have something to add to the Earth experience, and our arc light brilliance only happens when we create from who we most genuinely are.

Why does it matter?

Have you noticed what a sad, depressing place we live in?  The “evening news” would more accurately be described as “daily capitalization on and creation of misfortune to capture advertising dollars.”  We don’t know our neighbors’ names.  We don’t smile at strangers.  We hide in our living rooms eating fast food and watching television shows that demonstrate for us how dangerous it is to be alive in the most dramatic, funniest, most romantic ways possible.  We are surrounded by all kinds of shadows and they are all the children of fear.  This is the status quo.  If we “Don’t rock the boat,” if we, “Sit down, shut up, and mind our own business,” then we participate in the status quo.  We add our energy, the weight of our divine selves, to these illusions.  More, we contribute to the illusions that “Life is scary,” and, “People are evil.”

I’ve realized that what it comes down to is this; the boat is sinking.  If none of us takes the chance to “rock the boat,” we won’t figure out how to fix it and it will still go down.  If we don’t actively bring our best selves into the world, if we aren’t creating joy in our lives and happiness for others as powerfully as we possibly can, then we are contributing to the status quo and the status quo wants us to live unhappy, alone, and in fear.

Quite simply, I realized that if I’m not working for a better, happier world, I’m working against it.

So here I am, writing a blog post and bringing all of my divine self to this moment.  My intuitive work is one of the ways I get to “Make waves,” that touch the lives of others.  I’m here to talk if you want.  Email me a quick note or message me on Facebook if you’d like to chat and see how I can help.
